Three-time Commitment-Maker Alabaster International partners with Live Love and Give Sri Lanka to bring healthcare, nutrition, and caregiver support directly to vulnerable older adults.
NEW YORK — September 22, 2026 — Alabaster International announced its third Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action, launching a multi-year initiative with Live Love and Give Sri Lanka (LLG) to address the growing health and nutrition needs of Sri Lanka’s aging population.
Sri Lanka has the fastest-growing aging population in South Asia, yet many older adults, particularly those in rural regions, face significant barriers to healthcare, nutritious food, and ongoing caregiving support.
The initiative grew out of Alabaster’s emergency mobile medical response following Cyclone Ditwah in December 2025. In partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative, Direct Relief, and alongside local partners, Alabaster’s mobile teams cared for nearly 400 patients in a matter of days. Among older adults screened, approximately 9% were identified as nutritionally at risk, while teams encountered significant gaps in chronic disease management and access to nutritious food.
“What began as an emergency response revealed a much deeper need,” said Shannon Fernando, MSN, FNP-C, Founder and CEO of Alabaster International. “This commitment is about ensuring older adults can age with dignity in their own homes while equipping Sri Lankan caregivers with the training and technology to support them.”
Mobile Elder Care and Caregiver Empowerment Initiative
The Mobile Elder Care and Caregiver Empowerment Initiative will integrate three core components:
- Mobile Medical Teams: Clinician-led home visits providing health screenings, chronic disease management, education, and referrals.
- Nutrition Support: Locally led meal services combined with nutrition screening and practical nutrition education.
- Caregiver Training: Training Sri Lankan caregivers and community health workers while equipping them with digital tools to care for aging populations.
“Disasters often expose vulnerabilities that existed long before the emergency,” said Denham Perera, Founder and Executive Director of Live, Love and Give Sri Lanka. “Our goal is not simply to respond to a crisis and leave, but to listen to what it reveals and build something lasting alongside the community.”
As a CGI Commitment-Maker, Alabaster International has worked extensively with rural farmers and regenerative agriculture initiatives in East Africa. This new commitment represents a significant expansion of their work into South Asia with a focus on humanitarian response and health services delivery.
