Enset Ambassador Hunger Relief Program
Alabaster’s Enset Ambassador Hunger Relief Program (EAHRP) is a comprehensive initiative designed to equip and elevate indigenous female smallholder farmers as leaders of Enset-based food security in their own communities.
Through community demonstration plots, cooking classes, hands-on mentorship, and specialized training, Ambassadors model regenerative, indigenous farming practices that strengthen climate resilience and guard families against hunger.
Powered by the EnsetAI mobile platform, Ambassadors share localized, step-by-step guidance on Enset cultivation, support new farmers throughout the growing cycle, and distribute healthy Enset seedlings to households most vulnerable to food insecurity.
Enset Ambassadors
Indigenous women selected for their leadership and farming experience, trained to become community experts in Enset cultivation. Ambassadors use the EnsetAI app to deliver coaching, conduct follow-up visits, and provide technical support—earning fair compensation for their expertise as they help their neighbors build long-term food security.
The EAHRP is a core pillar of Alabaster’s broader vision to scale Enset cultivation across Africa, establishing Enset as a resilient, life-saving crop for millions of families facing hunger and climate change.
On the Ground
Ethiopia
We have established three thriving community demonstration plots in Dorze (Southern Ethiopia) and Lalibela and Gondar (Northern Ethiopia), serving as living training hubs for entire regions.
50 Enset Ambassadors have begun intensive training on regenerative Enset cultivation. These women are preparing to use the EnsetAI mobile app, which will allow them to scale knowledge and support new farmers with unprecedented efficiency.
Kenya
Three community demonstration plots are now established across Nairobi, Kajiado, and Turkana counties, each serving as a critical testing ground for Enset’s growth in new climates and altitudes.
25 trained Ambassadors are already tending community nurseries, gathering real-time data on Enset viability, and refining best practices for local conditions.
